Remaining
In an era fixated on digital immortality, “Remaining” confronts viewers with the paradox of preserving marginalized existence through DNA data on blockchain. The installation creates an imposing yet ethereal environment where cement blocks, traditionally symbols of permanence, become screens for projected genetic sequences. As participants approach, their presence triggers real-time transformations in the projections, their DNA data merging with the existing genetic archives. This interaction creates a haunting dialogue between physical presence and digital perpetuity, suggesting the possibility of replication and majority status for historically erased minorities. The work's brutalist cement surfaces contrast with the ethereal fluidity of projected sequences, creating a meditation on permanence and transience. Each blockchain transaction recording DNA data serves as both archive and protest, preserving not just genetic information but the political act of refusing erasure. Through this technological preservation, the work questions our society's patterns of remembering and forgetting, while offering a provocative vision of minority resistance through digital immortality.
